Does it work for my breed?

Will the brindle, merle or spotted markings show?
Yes. Brindle patterns, merle coats, blue heeler speckles, husky face masks, dalmatian spots and doodle textures are kept from the photo, so the portrait should be recognisable as your specific dog.
My dog has just been clipped, or is mid-moult. Will that show?
It will, because the painting works from the coat in your photograph rather than from what the breed is supposed to look like. A doodle clipped short last week comes back clipped short, and a shepherd photographed mid-moult comes back mid-moult. Age is kept the same way: a greying muzzle, cloudy eyes or the scars a rescue arrived with stay rather than being smoothed away. If you want the fuller coat, use a photo from before the groomer.
Can I include the dog and myself together?

All my photos are taken from standing height. Does that matter?
It does, and it is the commonest fault in a dog photograph: a phone held at adult height above a sitting dog foreshortens the face, widens the nose and fills the background with floor. Crouch to the dog's own eye level, take the face head-on or at a slight angle, and use daylight from a window. The other two faults that cannot be rescued are a dark-coated dog photographed in a dim room, where there is no coat detail in the file to keep, and a dog running at the camera, where the blur is already in the picture.
