What makes it my cat rather than a cat of the same colour?
Coat pattern and face geometry, which on a cat amount to the same thing: the M a tabby wears on its forehead, the line where a tortoiseshell's two colours split across the face, how far a colour-point's mask runs, the tufts on the ears and the exact green, amber or blue of the eyes. All of that is carried over from the photograph. The ears matter as much as the face, and the model is told never to crop the head, the face or the ears out of the frame.
My only photos are candids. Is that a problem?
No, and the free preview is set up for exactly that. Each preview paints two variants: one close and centred on the face, one wider with more of the painted setting around her. A candid therefore gives you two readings to choose between rather than one salvage attempt. All the photograph has to contain is the face, visible, in light that is not hopeless.
Does it work for black cats?

Can I have both my cats in one painting?
