A modern portrait studio,
open to everyone.
A commissioned portrait used to cost €500 to €5,000 and take weeks. We thought that was a mistake.
Portrait Union is an independent AI portrait studio that turns ordinary photos into museum-quality artwork. Pets, families, kids, couples, self-portraits — any face, any species, any number of subjects — reimagined across nine distinct art styles.
A real portrait painter still costs anywhere from €500 to €5,000 and takes weeks. The result is beautiful, but completely out of reach for most of the people who would love one most: pet parents who lost their dog last year, families marking a milestone, couples remembering an anniversary.
We built Portrait Union to make that kind of artwork accessible — not by replacing artists, but by giving the rest of us a way to celebrate the people and pets we love, in a form worth keeping forever.

The commitments we make.
A photo is a moment.
A portrait is a keepsake.
We don't filter or overlay. Each style is its own pipeline — a complete artistic reinterpretation, composed pose, period dress, painted background.
Identity comes first.
Face preservation, breed accuracy, recognizability. If we can't render your subject so they're unmistakably themselves, we'd rather not render it at all.
Your photo is yours.
Uploads are processed securely and never used to train models. Free preview photos can be deleted at any time. We never share your photos. Ever.
No subscriptions.
No games.
Pay once, keep your credits forever. No auto-renewal, no expiration, no upsell pressure. We make portraits, not retention metrics.
How a portrait is actually made.
For the curious. The full pipeline, end to end.
Subject & style
You choose the subject (pet, couple, family…) and one of nine styles. Each maps to a distinct, hand-tuned prompt pipeline.
Generation
Google Gemini 3 Pro Image renders a 1024 × 1280 portrait at 4:5 aspect ratio, with system instructions tuned for face fidelity.
Upscale
Replicate's Recraft Crisp Upscale (Real-ESRGAN as fallback) brings the portrait to 4096 × 5120 pixels — enough for 75 × 100 cm prints.
Print & ship
Print orders are routed through Gelato's global network — a Berlin order is produced in Germany, a Sydney order in Australia.
The output is a complete artistic reinterpretation, not a filter. Renaissance Royal references court portraits from the 15th–16th centuries. Greek God references classical sculpture. Samurai Warrior references Edo-period yoroi armor and ukiyo-e composition. Van Gogh references his late Saint-Rémy period. Each style is its own pipeline.
The studio, quantified.
Independent. Bootstrapped.
Built for the long haul.
No outside investors. No data harvesting. The product exists to serve the people who upload their photos to it.
