Royal Pet Portrait From a Photo
Your dog or cat as the monarch of the house, painted from one photo
Updated 7 September 2026
A royal pet portrait paints your dog or cat from one photo as a monarch in the Renaissance Royal or Greek God style. A crown or jewelled collar and a velvet cape sit over the animal's own body. Two free watermarked previews take about a minute, no account. The digital file costs €4.99; canvas from €69.99, shipping included.
A royal pet portrait from Portrait Union is painted from one clear photo of your dog or cat. Upload it, choose the pet subject and the Renaissance Royal style, and two watermarked previews arrive in about a minute, free, with no account; one free preview per visitor per day. The pet is painted seated on a brocade cushion under a velvet cape, with a crown or a jewelled collar, in warm golden glazes and Rembrandt lighting. The whole image shows brushwork rather than photo smoothness. Breed, markings, fur and eye colour come from the photo, and the animal keeps its own four-legged body: the cape drapes over a real dog or cat, never over a human torso. Greek God offers a second royal reading, with laurels and ivory drapery on marble. The 2048×2560 px digital file costs €4.99; a gallery canvas starts at €69.99, framed canvas comes in Black, Dark wood or Natural wood, and shipping to 35 countries is included. Production takes 3–5 business days.

How a dog or cat photo becomes a royal portrait
Upload one photo of your dog or cat and choose Renaissance Royal. The pet is painted as a monarch of the old courts: seated on a brocade cushion, a velvet cape over the shoulders, a crown beside them or a jewelled collar at the neck. The cape comes in crimson, blue or green, and the light is warm and golden, in the manner of old-master portraiture.
The animal stays an animal. The model is instructed to drape the cape over the pet's real body in a real sitting or lying pose, with no human shoulders or torso underneath and no standing on hind legs. Breed, markings, fur colour, eye colour and expression are kept from the photo, so a Jack Russell is still your Jack Russell, only crowned.
Cape colour, cushion, jewellery and background vary with each generation, so the two previews you receive differ in more than small details. Greek God is the other royal reading: a laurel wreath, ivory and gold drapery, marble columns and a sky behind, which suits a calm, upright cat or a dog that sits well.
It suits a portrait for the hallway, a present for someone whose pet runs the household, and a memorial made in a quiet style. Dogs and cats have their own pages with breed and coat advice; the pet memorial page covers timing and photo choice for a pet who has died.

Frequently asked questions
Which pets does it work for?
Dogs and cats, from one photo each. Other four-legged pets work in the same styles; see the pet portrait page.
Will my pet still look like themselves?
Yes. Breed, markings, fur colour, eye colour and expression are kept from the photo. The crown and cape are added around the animal, not instead of it.
What photo should I use?
A clear, well-lit photo with the face visible, head-on or at a slight angle, with the pet near the middle of an upright frame. The picture is centre-cropped to 4:5 before painting.
Can I have two pets in one royal portrait?
Upload an upright photo with both near the middle and both are painted, each with their own markings, at no extra cost.
Is it suitable as a memorial?
It can be. Renaissance Royal is the quietest of the royal readings; the pet memorial page covers which photo to use and how long to allow.
